About Charming Foundation
Charming Foundation Thrift and Gift
Cheri Dorfman, founder of Charming Movers in Maryland, was struck by the sheer amount of furniture and household goods that were discarded during the moving process. Time and time again, she witnessed families leaving behind perfectly usable couches, dining tables, beds, and even children’s toys, simply because they no longer fit their new space or style. These items, destined for landfills, were reminders of the mounting waste problem in the moving industry. Cheri felt there had to be a better way—one that aligned with her company’s ethos of care and community. Inspired, she set out to fill this gap by creating a system where these discarded items could find a second life with families in need.
The initiative quickly grew into a mission to reduce waste while supporting underprivileged families across Maryland. Cheri envisioned a network where donated furniture, housewares, and toys could be collected, refurbished, and distributed to those struggling to furnish their homes. This project not only kept countless items out of landfills but also provided critical resources to families starting fresh, many of whom couldn’t afford the basics for a comfortable life. By transforming what others saw as trash into treasures, Cheri’s project bridged the gap between sustainability and social impact, creating homes full of warmth and hope for those who needed it most.
